Making DIY lipstick to match my cat’s nose

Making DIY lipstick to match my cat’s nose

Am I the only one that thinks my cat’s nose is the perfect nude color? It’s creamy, soft and just pink enough. It’s basically the perfect nude lipstick hue.

So I wanted to make a custom DIY lipstick that would match her nose perfectly.

Sitting Cat down on the counter next to me (yes her name is Cat), I started to formulate the color with my Craft Lipstick OMG Lipstick kit. She was very interested in what I was doing and kept a close eye on the lipstick making process (ok, maybe I did have some treats nearby so I could study her nose for inspiration).

I started out using these colors from our OMG Lipstick kit as they would provide the basis for a nude color:

-Red liquid color

-White liquid color

-Yellow mica

I melted one teaspoon of the natural lipstick base in the microwave for 30 seconds. Then I mixed in a half scoop of the red liquid and a full scoop of the white liquid. I started with just a half scoop of red as it is quite pigmented and I don’t want this shade to be too bright or dark. A beautiful pink color began to emerge.

It was still too dark of a pink so I added another scoop of white liquid color. Still too dark so I added a third scoop. Just right. Now it needed to be made a big more beige. I added scoop by scoop of yellow mica until I got the right tone.

I tested a small swatch on my hand. It was a bit too bright, so I added a scoop of our pink mica as it is a more muted pink. Then it was perfect. I poured the mixture into the lipstick mold and let set for 20 minutes in the freezer.

I think the color came out pretty close to my cat’s nose! And she seems to like it! Look at her posing.

Here is my final recipe. I call the color “Pretty Kitty”

  • 1 teaspoon natural lipstick base
  • Half scoop red liquid color
  • Three scoops white liquid color
  • 3 scoops yellow mica
  • 1 scoop pink mica

Is there a color you want to create into a custom lipstick shade? Try it out and let us know how it goes!

I think my next color formulation will be a shimmery stick that I can use for lips and cheeks. I want to match it to a new top that I bought.

Happy formulating!
